London visit

Last week I went to London with my family.  We had such a great time!

We visited London because my blog was shortlisted for Best Interior Lifestyle Blog International and we went to the award night of the Amara Interior Blog Awards. Read more about the evening in my previous post.

We found a really lovely Airbnb in Maida Vale. It was situated in one of the lodges around the corner of Clifton Road. It was very easy to travel around the city with a bus stop in front of the apartment and the underground station Warwick Road at the end of Clifton road.

The first day we arrived, we went downtown, walked near the Thames and the London Eye, the Big Ben and House of Parlement. Unfortunately the Big Ben is being repaired and was totally covered. It was cold and we had a warm whiskey at one of the stands and sat by the fire.  We went back to the apartment and had a good night sleep after all the traveling we did and the impressions of the city.

Near our Airbnb

There were a lot of nice little shops, bars and restaurants near our Airbnb. We enjoyed coffee and lunch at Baker & Spice.

The next day we went to Notting Hill and Portobello Road, we were very lucky the weather was great and sunny all the days we were in London. We enjoyed walking around, the shops and having a coffee on the terrace of The Distillery. We went to the famous Notting Hill bookshop and bought a book about Wabi Sabi, Japanese wisdom for a perfectly imperfect life from Beth Kempton.

If we could have stayed longer we would have loved to watch a movie in this Theatre.

In the evening we went to the award night of the Amara Interior Blog Awards, read all about it here.

London visit, Harrods

The next day we went to the Natural History Museum and later in the afternoon we also visited Harrods. The amount of luxury things they have is always overwhelming. It was very busy, our feet were hurting from walking so we had a cup of tea in the cafe. I had to take a picture of these beautiful flowers from Neill Strain Floral Couture.

After one more night in London we had to go back home, still so much to see and do, can't wait to go back, until next time!

Designkwartier 2016

Last sunday I visited the Designkwartier festival in The Hague. It's becoming a tradition to visit the festival with two of my dear friends and do some catching up in the meantime.

As always our highlight was WOTH Wonderful Things that, especially for the festival turned into a warehouse with dutch and danish design. Among other things you could see furniture of  Woud, work of Leff Amsterdam, Hasan Tasdemir, NLXL, Klaas Kuiken, Dieter Volker, Susan Bijl (bags), Laurien Dumbar (paintings) and jewelry of Edith van Kan.

We sat down in the beautiful patio and enjoyed a glass of wine. Such a beautiful place. The owners make you feel at home and the design and styling is to die for. The former milk factory is also for rent for private dining.

I admired the products of designduo Spitsberg. I love the minimal design, the beauty and detail.

We also visited Koppenwinkel, a pop-up store with beautiful ceramics of  House of Thol, Studio Harm & Elke, Fenna Oosterhoff, Inge Simonis, 3TREEceramics, Mara Skujeniece, Alissa & Nienke, Studio Ineke van der Werff, Studio Remy and Lisanne van Zanten. I wanted to buy them all.

We had a great time at the festival, can't wait for next year!

Festival Designkwartier mixes presentations, shops, activities, and exhibitions in the design field into an inspiring event. For three days, the Zeeheldenkwartier is the domain of leading designers and new talent with exciting projects. You will find special design for everyday use as well as inventive and witty objects to think about. During the festival, the designers are present to illustrate their work. This way, the visitor is challenged to view obvious matters in a different way. The route is inspiring as it runs along about 50 diverse locations, such as pop-up stores, shops, galleries, museum Panorama Mesdag, national monument the Temple, art center Stroom Den Haag and surprising places such as courtyards, houses and industrial warehouses. >> Festival Designkwartier

Design Apartments in Weimar

Sometimes you stumble upon a great holiday retreat and this is one of them. The holiday apartments  in Weimar, Germany "Hier war Goethe Nie" of the German actor and interior designer Mark Pohl.

What is so unique about these apartments? The concept of the apartments is that they are renovated and designed to introduce the local design by Bauhaus students of the Bauhaus university in Weimar, Germany.

The guests of the apartments can test the interior during their holiday, they can purchase the interior and selected vintage right there or place an order in the online store. In the shop you can find selected vintage, interior design products and furniture. I love the idea!

The apartments are light and beautifully decorated, I like the modern look and feel and the timeless vintage furniture combined with the new design of the local designers.

If you want to visit Weimar this is certainly the place to stay. Weimar has a city centre with parts that are designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites, with buildings designed under Bauhaus architecture, and you can visit different cultural places such as the Bauhaus museum.

In short, if you are looking for a cultural holiday trip and you are a lover of design this is the place for you!

You can check out the design apartments here and follow them on Instagram and Facebook

Visiting the Botanical Garden Leiden

Last friday I visited the Botanical Garden in LeidenTogether with a friend I visited the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden. We went to art school together and thought it would be a great idea to practice our painting. First we went to the Victoria Greenhouse. What a beautiful place, there were huge butterflies flying around and amazing flowers and plants. We found a nice spot to paint over there. After lunch we went outside to make another painting and we were lucky the sun just came out, because it had been cloudy all day. We sat outside in the sun and it felt as if we were in the south of France!

I have been working almost continuously lately and I am still busy. Some of it is new webdesign work, but I also have to do some redesign for longtime customers. Too little time for instagram, facebook or my blog and a lot of ideas.

I was desperate for a break and very happy that my friend asked me to join her to visit Designkwartier Den Haag, the first edition of a new festival that is all about slowdesign, food and lifestyle.

First of all I was very lucky to win the book "How They Work" while visiting the lecture of Studio Aandacht at the Museum voor Communicatie. It is the second edition of "How They Work" from Tatjana Quax and Inga Powilleit  about dutch designers and their work behind the scenes, it will be published in june, can't wait!

After a drink outside in the sun at a café, we went to visit the rest of Designkwartier Den Haag. We saw a lot of inspiring designs, expositions and I loved the new shop in the Piet Heinstraat: The Fine Store. Very inspirational was WOTH (Week Only Treasure Hunt). A temporary warehouse with design, fingerfood and art, selected by Mary Hessing, head editor of the dutch magazine Eigen Huis & Interieur. The shop was situated in her house, a former milk factory in the centre of the Hague.

Really an unique event, and very glad I could visit. I made some pictures with my iPhone.

Hello Etsy 2012

This saturday I was visiting Hello Etsy Event in Eindhoven.

It was very inspiring and I learned al lot. A couple of things that were important to remember:

Follow your passion, do what you love and most of all, be yourself! Sharing experiences with others was also important. Share!

I loved the beautiful speech of  Satish Kumar  "Business As Unusual"

Impression of the building and work of Piet Hein Eek
where the event was being held.
